Hope Sylvain Obituary
Hope Frances Sylvain, aged 74, born October 10, 1951, passed away peacefully in Wilmington, NC, on October 11, 2025, just one day after her birthday. Born in the bustling city of Los Angeles, CA, Hope lived a life rich in love, adventure, and an insatiable curiosity for the finer things-especially if they involved a French bulldog, needle and thread, or a dash of culinary creativity.
As a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner with a profound commitment to her calling, she earned her MSN, RNC, DNC, and ANP certifications, and achieved a Master's in Dermatology. Hope devoted her career to serving others in the healthcare field. Her gentle touch and keen expertise were matched only by her presence and quick instinct, leaving many patients comforted even in the most daunting of times.
In her spare moments (though how she found them, we'll never know), a woman of many talents, Hope flourished as an expert seamstress-weaving stories into every stitch with her exquisite taste in fabric. She also loved whipping up gourmet feasts and the art of culinary. She proudly showed French bulldogs at AKC events, each pooch bearing a regal name befitting the finest French champagnes.
Hope's social calendar was as full as her heart-evidenced by her dedicated membership among certain specialist circles-and it led her to meet her beloved life partner, Jimmy Dewberry, on an unforgettable blind dinner date orchestrated by a close friend 12 years ago. Their love truly blossomed on a romantic escapade to Paris, solidifying their unshakable bond.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Tom, and her cherished twin sister Faith. Hope leaves behind a legacy carried forward by her loving partner, Jimmy, her niece, Susan, and her grandnieces, Hayley and Michelle. Her absence will also be deeply felt by Poppy, her sweet and ever-faithful French bulldog companion.
Services to celebrate Hope's colorful life will be held at Wilmington Funeral Chapel at 2:00 PM, where laughter, tears, and maybe even a French bulldog (or two) will be welcome. As we gather to say goodbye, family and friends are encouraged to bring their wittiest stories of Hope, which she would surely prefer over any bouquet. Rest in peace, dear Hope-you'll forever be missed in life, laughter, and love.
In lieu of flowers, bake a soufflé, sew a dress, or take your pup for an extra-long walk-just as Hope would have wanted. Cheers to you, Hope, until we meet again with a needle in one hand and gourmet hors d'oeuvres in the other.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wilmington Funeral & Cremation - Wilmington Chapel, 1535 S. 41st Street Wilmington, NC 28403, (910) 791-9099.
