Horace "Butch" Samuel Ballew, a beloved figure in the Asheville community, was born on April 23, 1959, in Asheville, North Carolina. He passed away unexpectedly on August 22, 2025, also in his hometown, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.

Butch was a hardworking individual, having devoted his career to plumbing. For the past 20 years, he owned and operated Ballews Plumbing Company, where he served many clients with his expertise and commitment to quality work. His craftsmanship and reliability earned him the respect of his peers and clients alike, and he will be remembered for the essential role he played in the lives of those he served.

A proud graduate of Pisgah High School, class of 1977, Butch nurtured a love of history that spanned various periods, particularly World War I and World War II. This passion reflected his inquisitive nature and thirst for knowledge, enriching conversations with family and friends. He also had a keen interest in hot rods, cars, and trucks, which further illustrated his engaging personality and zest for life.

Above all, Butch was a family man who adored his loved ones. He is survived by his companion, Annette Buckner; and his sons: Kyle Ballew; Jacob Ballew and wife Crystal, Elijah Ballew, and Noah Buckner and wife Emily. His spirit lives on through his grandchildren: Harley, Jace, Sawyer, Scotlynn, and Mayleigh, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. Butch is also survived by his siblings: Barbara Swann, Robert Ballew and wife Flo, and Richard "Bud" Ballew. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends, all of whom will carry fond memories of him in their hearts.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Louis Ballew and Emma Lou Hensley Ballew, as well as his stepson, Joshua Buckner, and his brother, Danny Ballew. The love he had for them, and the impact they had on his life, shaped the incredible person he became.

A Celebration of Butch's Life will be held in his honor on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, located at 1428 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
