It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Horace Harry Martin Jr, or as his grandfather nicknamed him when he was born on April 12th, 1949, "Skip."
But we celebrate a life well lived. Skip was raised in a loving home by Horace Sr and June (Hardy) and his many siblings: Barb (Harrington), Tim, John, Ted, Sundae (Reidy), Guy and Jeff.
Underneath his senior photo in the Mansfield High School Class of 1967 yearbook, it read: "This happy-go-lucky guy always has a cheerful smile for everyone." That statement ran true for all his 76 years. Just ask his countless repeat car-buying customers at Dahlgrens, Cole and Burd, and Blaise Alexander. Skip was not only a Chevy man, but loved a good tractor-pull, had a true gift for woodworking, and enjoyed just 'kicking tires.'
Skip is lovingly remembered by his understanding wife, of 34 years Cathy (Colton); two daughters, Christie Jo (Billy) Watkins of Covington, PA, and Amelia (Justin Hauser) Root of Wellsboro, PA; five grandchildren, Alex (Anais) Young, Clay Minier, Emma Davis, Natalie Davis, and Colton Hauser; a brother, Guy (Cheryl) Martin of Mansfield, PA; a sister, Sundae Reidy of Whitneyville, PA; and the many members of the Colton family that were very special to him. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barb Harrington; and four brothers, Tim, John, Ted, and Jeff.
Those are the things we know of Skip. We also know he battled cancer with the inner strength of an ox, that he will be missed by many and remembered by all who crossed his path.
In honoring Skip's wishes, there will be no services. To send memorial contributions in Skip's name, please send directly to the Morris Fire Company Tractor-Pull Fund. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA is assisting the family. www.buckheitfcandcrematory.com
