Horace E. Piner, 97, of Williston, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
A funeral service celebrating Mr. Piner’s remarkable life will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 19, at Munden Funeral Home. Following the service, interment will be held at Carteret Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
Born on March 13, 1928, in Williston, NC, Horace was the son of the late Harvey Piner and Georgia Aleese Piner. Horace worked an impressive 64 years at Carteret Quick Freeze in Beaufort, where local trawlers would get their ice before heading out for a week of fishing.
An enthusiastic reader, Horace had a remarkable talent for speed reading, reflecting his deep commitment to learning throughout his life. He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a proud grandfather, whose family meant the world to him.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Dr. Kelly Piner of Chillicothe, OH; son, Gary Piner (Michele) of Morehead City; grandchildren, Joseph Aldridge, Chance Piner (Destiny), Chase Piner, Matt Salter (Ruthanne), and Kayla DeMore (Mike); and great-grandchildren, Noah Salter, Kelsie Piner, Alexis DeMore, Madison DeMore, Lucas DeMore, and Natalie DeMore.
In addition to his parents, Horace was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Maxine Piner; daughter, Teresa Leigh; and sister, Mollie Louise Piner.
