Horacio J. Barros, age 78, passed away on December 1, 2023, at the Lawrence General Hospital, after a long period of being ill. He was the husband to Gabriela M. (Filipe) Barros for 52 loving years. Born in Flores, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Manuel Smith Barros and Carmen (Jacinto) Barros. He served in the Portuguese Army and migrated to the states in his early 20’s, marrying Gabriela in 1971, becoming a lifelong resident of Stoughton. He worked as a UPS Delivery Driver for 27 years, where he was well liked among his co-workers. He even received a safety driver award for his good driving throughout his years on the job. He was an avid soccer fan, playing in the Over the Hill League out of Stoughton. He was a member of Club Luis de Cameos of Stoughton, staying involved within the social circle of the club. He and his family had a summer home in Cape Cod, where he enjoyed going quahogging in Buzzard’s Bay, and spending many summers at the beach. He loved tending to his garden and keeping up the appearance of his yard, always staying passionate about his family home. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, with a sense of humor that made others laugh.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children Paul Barros of Stoughton and Nelson Barros of Pepperell, and was the grandfather to Alex Barros. He is also survived by his siblings Gloria Andrade and Jose Barros, both of Stoughton, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Tuesday December 5th from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held the next day, Wednesday, December 6th at the funeral home at 8:45 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton at 10 AM. Interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton.
