Hortenia Calderon Martinez

Hortencia Calderon Martinez, 77, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025. She was born on February 24, 1948, in Mexico and later made her home in California, where she lovingly raised her two children.

Hortencia retired from Nordstrom, where she worked in the housekeeping department-a job she truly loved and took great pride in. Known for her kind and caring spirit, she touched the lives of many through her gentle nature and warm heart.

For the past seven years, Hortencia resided in Lafayette, Indiana, where she received exceptional care from the dedicated team at Rosewalk Village. Even during her journey with dementia, pieces of her devoted work ethic remained evident; she was often found carefully folding toilet paper in the bathroom, a tender reflection of her many years at Nordstrom.

Hortencia had a love for fashion and always took care to look her best. She enjoyed listening to country music and deeply adored her beloved cat, Elvis. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the quiet grace she carried throughout her life.

She is survived by her son, Miquel "Mike" Gutierrez, and his wife, Donna, of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her daughter and her parents, Lupe Calderon and Jose Martinez.

Hortencia's giving heart and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
