Robert Dearth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tippecanoe Funeral & Cremation Services on Dec. 31, 2025.
Robert Lee Dearth, age 70, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on December 29, 2025. He was born on August 4, 1955, in Wisconsin.

Robert was a man of passion, humor, and deep loyalty to those he loved. For many years, he proudly operated his ice cream truck throughout Monticello, Indiana, frequently serving the Badlands neighborhood. Vending was more than a job to Robert-it was a true passion and a way to connect with people. He also owned and operated a painting business for many years, taking great pride in his work and strong work ethic.

In 2001, Robert moved to Lafayette after meeting the love of his life, Cheryl Alford. They became life partners for 25 years, sharing love, laughter, and companionship. Robert affectionately referred to Cheryl as "TOOTM"-The Only One That Matters.

Euchre was a lifelong love for Robert and actually how he met Cheryl. He played in many tournaments and later continued playing online. He was also a devoted Green Bay Packers fan and was known for leaving a room with his favorite line: "After further review, the Bears still suck."

Music held special meaning for Robert, particularly the song "Turning Away" by Pink Floyd. He and his late friend Dennis had an agreement that whichever one passed first, the other would enter the funeral carrying a boombox playing that song-a memory that speaks to Robert's humor and loyalty.

Robert is survived by his life partner, Cheryl Alford; his former wife of 17 years Linda Dearth, his children Robert Dearth Jr., Rebecca Jensen (Steven Bruessel), and Andrew Dearth (Ashley); his siblings Frank Dearth, Margaret Wenger Miller, Jim Dearth, Bill Dearth, MaryAnn Inman, Karen Boyce, and Roger Dearth; and his grandchildren Kaiden Jensen, Alexander Jensen, Kaleb Bruessel, and Elliana Dearth.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin "Lester" Dearth and Margaret "Germaine" Dearth; his stepfather Joe Metz; his step-grandson Julian Kubisz; and his siblings Betty Anderson and John Dearth.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Services will take place Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with burial immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Robert's honor.
