Howard Alexander, Jr.

March 25, 1939 - January 19, 2026

Charlotte, North Carolina - Howard Benson Alexander, Jr. went to his eternal home and into the arms of Jesus on January 19, 2026. There he was welcomed by his loving wife, Kathy, his parents and so many other loved ones.

He was born on March 25, 1939, to Howard Alexander and Edith Cadieu Alexander in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Central High School and began his career with the Charlotte Observer Newspaper.

In his younger days, he spent a lot of time at the river with his cousins fishing and boating. He loved fast cars, drag racing, and racing at the dirt tracks. Howard also loved working on cars in his garage.

He married the love of his life, Mary Katherine Wortman on April 7, 1962, in Belwood, NC. Together they enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, beekeeping and camping.

He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Charlotte where he served as a deacon. Howard also enjoyed cooking and hosting pig pickings with friends and family. He became an avid collector of many things, loved attending tractor pulls and romping around the farm with his brother-in-law, J.D. Wortman.

Howard is preceded in death by his mother and father, his beautiful wife Kathy, his former son-in-law John P. Beall and lifelong friend Annette Bullard.

Howard is survived by his two daughters Sandy Beall-Chapman (Phil) and Kelly King (Jim); four grandchildren, Johnny Beall (Melanie), Jeffrey Beall (Ericka), Katie Burth (Josh), and Jamie King; and five great grandchildren, Khloe, Beau, Kennedy, Weslee, and Henry.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM at St. Paul Baptist Church, Casar, NC with the Rev. Keith Fulbright officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes before the service at the church. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul Baptist Church, 337 Hull Road, Casar, NC 28020.
