Olin Broadway Obituary

Olin Harvin Broadway Jr.

November 4, 1936 - March 2, 2026

Charlotte, North Carolina - Olin Harvin Broadway Jr., 89, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, March 2, 2026. Born on November 4, 1936, in Hartsville, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Olin Harvin Broadway Sr. and Francis Pitts Broadway.

Olin began his high school education in Henderson, NC, and completed it at Hargrave Military Academy. He accepted a basketball scholarship to Wake Forest University, where he was a four-year letterman, team captain, and President of the senior class of 1959. After college, he taught mathematics and coached varsity basketball at Broughton High School in Raleigh. Later, Olin accepted a position as a Systems Engineer at IBM, which sparked a distinguished career in information technology.

In 1975, Olin relocated his family from Raleigh to Charlotte to accept a position in IT with First Union National Bank. In 1980, he left First Union to co-found Broadway & Seymour, Inc., created to address the software needs of Charlotte's fast-growing financial services industry. After a period of rapid expansion, Broadway & Seymour went public, enabling Olin to launch a portfolio of companies focused on needs he recognized in the community, including financial operations, workforce literacy, and skills training. He concluded his career with 16 years of service as Executive in Residence at the UNC Charlotte College of Computing and Informatics.

Olin was a loyal and loving husband to Sadye Anne for 58 years. Together they were devoted partners in raising their four children. He modeled the values of integrity, patience, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and generosity. Olin was a dedicated father and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family. He enjoyed coaching his sons' basketball teams, chaperoning school trips, and spending long evenings helping with math homework at the kitchen table. He leaves behind a legacy that will be forever cherished.

Olin is preceded in death by his parents, Olin Harvin Broadway, Sr and Frances Pitts Broadway; his wife, Sadye Anne Boyd Broadway; siblings, James Henry Broadway and James Wesley Broadway.

Olin is survived by his four children: Olin Harvin Broadway III (Michelle), Anne Broadway Welsh (Jerry), Eric Benjamin Broadway, and Katherine Broadway Ficca (Matt); and by his nine adoring grandchildren: Olin Broadway IV, Nicholas Broadway, Lindsey Broadway, Caroline Ficca, Elly Ficca, Landon Wollesen (Matthew), Haydon Welsh, Brennon Welsh, and Cameron Welsh. He is also

survived by his great-grandchildren, Harris and Miller Kate Wollesen; his sister, Fabian Broadway Jackson (Robert); and many more loving family members and friends.

A celebration of Olin's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
