Howard John Anderson
Brother, Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and "Go-pa"
8/8/1942 – 12/13/2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Howard John Anderson on December 13th, 2025, at the age of eighty-three.
Howard was born on August 8, 1942, at San Jose Hospital and raised in
Mountain View, California. Howard lived a life defined by devotionto his work, his passions, his family & community. Howard is lovingly survived by his wife of over 64 years, Donna Anderson; his daughter, Kelly Marie Barentine; his son, Howard John Anderson Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Shani Anderson; four granddaughters; Kylene, Randi, Sydney, and Danielle; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Daniel Anderson; his sister, Lilian Rhodes; and, of course, his loyal dog, Augie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Clarance Anderson, and Isabelle Marie Anderson; his brother, Leslie Clarance Anderson Jr.; and his beloved dogs, Lucy, Penny, and Gabby.
Howard and Donna were married on December 31, 1960, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love, courage, and unwavering support.
In 1977, together they sold everything they owned and moved to northern California, to start a new chapter. From a modest "hole in the wall," Anderson's Sierra Pipe was born. Through perseverance and even surviving multiple fires, the business grew into a highly respected and successful company that has been an integral part of the Auburn community and surrounding areas for more than 40 years.
Through the years Donna stood beside Howard with every bold idea and "pipe dream," each one eventually becoming reality. Whether drag racing with his brother Dan setting the fastest run in history at Woodburn Drag Strip with a record 221 mph at 6.31 seconds or restoring hot rods, owning fast boats, and spending cherished time with family on Shasta Lake.
Howard devoted his life to his family, proudly running the business alongside his son, John, and sharing his passion for drag racing with his brother, Dan.
Those who knew him would remember his tireless work ethic, his dedication to helping others, as well as the warmth of his infectious laugh and smile. He lived a humble life filled with adventure, adrenaline, and generosity towards others.
Howard's legacy lives on through the family he held close, the community he helped build, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
Race in Peace, Go-Pa.
The family will privately lay Howard to rest at the New Auburn Cemetery. To honor Howard there will be a procession from Palm to Hwy 49 on Nevada St. Friday, January 2nd at 12:30 for anyone who would like to wave a final "Hello Friend."
