Neil J. Keegan

Neil J. Keegan, age 90, of Auburn, California, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025. Born on January 3, 1935, in Hartington, Nebraska, he was the son of Dayton L. Keegan and Corena E. Olson.

Early in his childhood, Neil moved from Nebraska to Vallejo, California, where his father worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard building submarines during World War II. The family later settled in Richmond, California, where they built their family home. From a young age, Neil was hard-working, skilled in carpentry, and deeply committed to his family.

He attended the California College of Arts and Crafts, where he served as Student Body President. After college, he served in the United States Army with the 823rd Battalion from 1958 to 1960.

Neil married Eleanor M. Keegan, who preceded him in death on May 2, 2023. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and community, living in San Pablo, Benicia, and later Fair Oaks. He had a long career in auto parts sales throughout Northern California, where his dedication and work ethic were evident in all he did.

A loving father and grandfather, Neil took great pride in caring for his family and sharing his passions with them. He enjoyed working on cars, particularly restoring a 1959 Mercury in 1980, and building handcrafted furniture that filled his home with warmth and character. He cherished frequent family camping trips and outings, and had a special fondness for the Sea Ranch area along the Pacific Coast.

He is survived by his son, Sean B. Keegan (Cathy) of Atwater, California; his daughter, Rebecca J. McCain of Fair Oaks, California; and his cherished grandchildren, Marryanna, Caity (Ronald), Cristal, and Seana.

Neil will be laid to rest at the Dixon National Cemetery with military honors. No formal service will be held.
