Howard Paul Barkley of New Cumberland passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Wellsburg Healthcare. He was seventy-five years old.
He was born on November 15, 1949, in Eldersville, Pennsylvania, to James and Sara Elizabeth Noah Barkley, and was the devoted brother to three siblings.
Howard proudly served his country in the United States Army, a commitment that shaped much of his character and values. Following his service, he spent the next fifty years on the open road as a professional truck driver, establishing strong ties with various companies, most recently with Madaris Transportation.
Someone who enjoyed the outdoors, Howard, spent countless hours on his family's property, passionately seeking the thrill of the hunt. While he cherished the autumn days in the woods, it became part of his legacy that he never quite brought home that prized buck.
Howard found joy in simplicity: he loved immersing himself in classic western movies and relishing his coffee each morning as he relaxed in his favorite chair on the porch.
His fascination with old cars and trucks was well known; Howard loved reminiscing, evoking stories of days gone by.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his brother James "Bud " Barkley, his sister Linda Eafrati, and her husband David Eafrati.
Remembering him fondly are his son Brian (Rannveig) Barkley of New Cumberland, his daughter Shannen (Alvin) Ginier of Hurricane, WV, his granddaughters Hailey and Taylor Barkley and Genevieve Ginier, great-granddaughter Kinsleigh Norus, his sister Melinda (Chipper) Greco, his sister-in-law Teresa Barkley, and his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Howard's wish for cremation will be honored.
He will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
A Memorial Service for Howard will be held at the convenience of his family.
