Linda Kay Smith, 74, of Weirton, WV, passed away on October 28, 2025. Linda's kindness, gentle spirit, and love for her family will live on in all who knew her.
She was born on March 23, 1951, in Steubenville, Ohio, one of five children born to the late Harry P. and Doris Mae Hendershot Wade.
A lifelong resident of Weirton, Linda graduated from Weir High School, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Donald LeRoy Smith. Together they built a loving home and raised their family in the community they cherished. Donald worked in the steel mill, while Linda spent her career caring for others; first at Al Shaw's Jewelers and later in the Housekeeping Department of the Weirton Geriatric Center, where she worked for over ten years.
Linda was the definition of patience, kindness, and generosity. The word "no" simply wasn't in her vocabulary. She was always doing for others, often putting their needs ahead of her own. A true homebody at heart, she found joy in life's simple pleasures; baking, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and decorating her home for every holiday.
She had a deep love for animals and could often be found watching the birds outside her window; especially her beloved hummingbirds. Linda also had a special place in her heart for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, supporting their mission faithfully. She gave of herself in every way, even donating blood to those in need.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, on April 19, 2025, and her brother, Terry Wade.
She will be deeply missed by her three sons, Brian (Dawn), Ronald (Tammy), and Keith (Christie) Smith; her brothers, Michael and Bruce Wade; her sister, Judy Ash; her grandchildren, Kaleb, Haylee, Ryley, Ashley, Chayse, Gabriel, Eli, Tanisha, and Christa; and her great-grandchildren, Leah, Ameliah, and Christian. Linda also leaves behind her beloved four-legged companions, affectionately known as "the kids" - Jeff, Debbie, and Shelby Rae.
Linda will be cremated at the Greco Hertnick Crematory, 3219 Main Street Weirton.
There will not be any formal services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to Linda's heart.
