With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Howard W. Brancel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this earthly realm on January 31, 2026, at the age of 88. Howard lived a life marked by service, creativity, and unwavering faith.

Howard's multifaceted career was as inspiring as it was diverse. A dedicated carpenter, he spent years in construction building for his family and others, where his commitment to hard work was evident in every project he undertook. His talents did not end there; Howard's adventurous spirit and patriotism for his country saw him serve as a U.S. Navy Frogman with Underwater Demolition Team 21. He was captain of Hawaiian based sport fishing and snorkel boat, The Spirit of Adventure. His continued passion for the ocean and wildlife culminated in his later work as a wildlife photographer and videographer. He used his artistic gifts to share the beauty of nature through articles written for the Blue Ridge Guide and treasured memories captured on film.

His life journey included remarkable chapters in law enforcement, where he served as a police captain, and various other roles. He was a manager at a sports diving shop in Hawaii and an estimator for the Titan II ICBM missile defense system at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Wherever he went, Howard's kindness and willingness to help others were unmatched; he never passed by a stranded motorist without stopping to lend a hand.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Howard's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He held numerous callings within the church including Stake Auditor, Elder's Quorum Counselor and Teacher, Branch Executive Secretary, Branch Historian, Branch Missionary Leader and Branch Counselor to the Presidency. He served a short time in the Atlanta Temple as a veil worker. His favorite scripture was Joshua 24:15: "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord". His commitment to service extended beyond the church, as he was lovingly supportive of his family, always putting the needs of his wife, Sandra, and others above his own. Howard's love for his family and community was profound, and he often expressed gratitude to those who ministered to him.

Howard was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him with pure love, his parents, a brother and a sister.

In honoring Howard's life, we celebrate his rich legacy of compassion, faith, and love. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Sandra along with countless family and friends who will forever cherish the time spent with such a remarkable person.
