Howard Kemp Bright

We are saddened to report the passing of Howard Kemp Bright on July 31, 2024 at ECU Health Medical Center after a long, valiant fight with Diabetes.

Kemp was born on November 22, 1961 and was the son of Ralph and Betsy Jolly Bright. He was raised on the family farm in the Winterville Community. He graduated from D.H. Conley and Pitt Community College. Kemp was employed in the Newport News Shipyard and Hyster-Yale in Greenville before returning to his first love, farming, with his parents until their tragic deaths in 1999. He began work at ECU until his health declined and retired in December 2023.
Kemp loved being outdoors. He loved saltwater fishing and was happiest fishing at Cape Lookout. He always looked forward to fall trips to the N.C. Mountains. He enjoyed watching ECU football and NASCAR. Always a farm boy at heart, he planted fruit trees in his backyard and tended a small garden. He was a man of deep faith and member of Red Oak Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William, and father-in-law, Lee Roy Morris.
He is survived by his: beloved wife and faithful caregiver, Kelly Bright; sisters, Becky Bright White and Bonnie Bright Casey;
brother, Sonny; and a number of special nieces.
Kemp was loved by his sister-in-law, Karen Morris and his bonus parents, Bill and Annette Jones.
Kemp was a cherished son, brother, uncle, friend and husband that will be deeply missed.
