Mr. Howard J. Brown of Montague, NJ, died Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Complete Care at Barnhill in Newton, NJ. He was 85.

He was born June 6, 1940 in Pond Eddy, NY the son of the late Howard Brown and the late Erma Maillat Brown. He graduated from Eldred High School in Eldred, NY in 1958.

Howard married the love of his life, Lois Herr in 1962 and were happily married for 37 years until her passing in 2000. He grew up on his family farm in Pond Eddy, NY. He met his wife Lois, in Matamoras, PA while working at Alboranos Gas station. He enjoyed reading newspapers, books, magazines, and everything of an informative nature. He loved gardening and watching the deer and all wildlife around his home. He enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren.

He was employed by various facilities through the years; Alboranos Gas Station, The Franklin NJ Zinc Mine, Gillinder Brothers Glass, C&D Batteries, Selective Risk Insurance Security and he also worked many years mowing grass at Rock View Golf Club. He was a past member of the Lumberland NY Volunteer Fire Department and the Montague NJ Fire Department.

Surviving are his son, Howard Brown and his wife Cindy of Montague, NJ; daughter, Michelle Smith and her husband Jay of Dingmans Ferry, PA; Six grandchildren, Melissa Brown, Matthew Brown, Kristofer Smith, Kelli Smith, Ashley Smith, and Arthur Hiller; One great granddaughter, Isabella Brown; his brother, Joseph Brown; his sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Carr; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, and wife Lois, he was predeceased by a sister, Amelia and two brothers, Jack and Robert.

Family and friends are invited to visit the GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME, INC. 100 East Main Street Port Jervis on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 2 - 4 pm & 6 - 8 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 11:00am at the funeral home with Pastor Amy Garrett officiating.

Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.
