Howard J. Daanen, 84, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023. He was born in De Pere on August 23, 1938 to Norbert and Mary (Joosten) Daanen. Howard attended St. Norbert High School.
On October 3, 1959, Howard married "the best catch of his life," Mary VanderMissen at St. Boniface Church in De Pere.
Howie spent 42 years in the Broadway Chevrolet Parts Department. He was also a member of the Retired Ashwaubenon Volunteer Fire Department and Bay Autobody. You could find him up north on his pontoon, catching perch and crappies. He enjoyed hunting with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Todd (Mary) Daanen, Linda (Dale) Joachim, son-in-law Jeff Barber; grandchildren; Derek (Devan) Barber, Ashley (Chris) Kading and Kristin (Jordan) Belanger. Howie is further survived by his great-grandchildren, who brought him so much joy, Graham and Rory Kading, Harper Belanger and Baby Barber; and his sister, Doris (Randall) Cavil.
Howie was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Barber; brothers Roger and Marvin Daanen; and sister Shirley Lubinski.
Family and friends may visit at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 2270 S. Oneida Street, Green Bay, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will take place at Allouez Catholic Mausoleum.
We will miss all the fun Howie brought and fish frys he shared. Special thanks to Unity Hospice and the Woodside staff for their above and beyond care!
