Howard Gain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Panama City on Mar. 4, 2026.
Howard R. "Bubby" Gain, 96, of Panama City, Florida, went home to be with his Lord on February 27, 2026. He was born on February 14, 1930, in West Union, West Virginia.

Howard proudly served his country in the United States Army for 20 years, faithfully dedicating himself during both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. His military service was a source of great pride and honor throughout his life. Following his retirement from the Army, Howard became a self-employed electronics and television repairman, a trade that reflected his sharp mind, steady hands, and strong work ethic.

Howard had a zest for life and a love for simple pleasures. He enjoyed playing checkers, bowling, and pitching horseshoes, and he found great joy in gardening and woodworking. He also had a passion for travel and was always ready for his next adventure-anywhere he could get a seat on a plane.

Howard will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his faith, his hardworking spirit, and the many hobbies that brought him joy and connection with others.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of the Chester Sims facility for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity shown to Mr. Gain.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gain; daughter, Lynda Curran; his parents, Riley and Lelia Gain.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Nancy Butler (Jim), Sandra Stickney (Jim), Sue Moneymaker (Eddie), and Lisa Gay (Tim); sons, Philip Berry (Suhles) and David Gain (Crysie). He is also remembered by many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Heritage Funeral Home with Chaplain Craig Brannon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mr. Gain will be laid to rest in the Masonic Memorial Park in West Union, WV. A date will be announced in the coming days.

Heritage Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Howard R. "Bubby" Gain.
