He is survived by the love of his life, Christine, very loving daughter Angel Cain, her husband Luke and granddaughter Hannah, who he was so proud of. Sister Mary Ann Payne, brother Johnny and nieces, nephews and many special cousins, Steve Wray and Tiny Kicklighter. Special friends include Peggy, Margaret, Steve B., Lynn.
Proceeded in death his parents Millard and Martha Holcomb. Brother David, brother-in-law Hugh Payne and many wonderful aunts and uncles.
Howard was a member of the Lawrenceville Masonic Lodge, #131 and a great supporter of Melbourne Lodge #143.
Howard loved the outdoors and fishing his entire life. From trout fishing on the Chattahoochee River to the open waters of the Florida Keys. In his younger days he traveled the Bahamas and the Caribbean to scuba dive and fish.
In the late 1980's he went to work at his father and mothers restaurant, Edges Café in Lawrenceville, GA. The stories he told from that experience were so amusing. He always said the 15 years he worked side by side with them were the best of times.
Howard always dreamed of returning to live in Florida. He visited often to his cousin Steve's place beachside in Melbourne Beach, FL. Always going to the beach to see sunrises. He fulfilled his dream and moved permanently to Florida in 2007.
During his 18 years with Christine, their love of getting in the car and just driving to see the whole State of Florida resulted in them visiting every one of the 172 Florida State Parks. They went to the Keys so many times. The beauty there was so uplifting. For fun they would drive cross the 7 Mile Bridge, turn around and do it again, then do it again and again. Other special areas they visited was Panama City Beach, Cedar Key and St. Augustine. There were multiple trips to Georgia, especially the northern area and Cherokee, NC. He loved showing Christine the area, which he knew so well.
Howard took Christine on her first cruise in 2007. That became the time of their life. They even eloped to the Bahamas on a cruise and got married on a beach. When Howard passed away they were on their 44th cruise. His health became an issue in the beginning of 2024 and found out in September that it was his heart. It was so appropriate that he took his last breath with Christine holding him on a cruise.
Last but not least, everyone who knew Howard also knew he was a Georgia Football Dawg fan. Tailgating with family and friends when living in GA. We would count the days till the first game in the fall. Recently found out some of his ashes will be scattered at Sanford Stadium and he will never miss another game. I know he is smiling down with joy and love that Angel will be doing this.
Howard will forever be missed by so many loving friends and family. Howard truly was a southern gentleman.
Sugar, my heart is broken.
