Dale Max Holcomb

Dale Max Holcomb, 82, known to most as Max, passed away on February 6, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri.

Max lived in the Springfield area for most of his life and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Being self-employed was important to him, and he built a successful life as an entrepreneur, owning and operating long-term businesses in extermination and long-distance trucking. His work ethic, independence, and determination were sources of pride throughout his life.

Music was one of Max's greatest joys. A gifted multi-instrumentalist with true mastery of the bass, he played with several local Springfield bands, including The Twisters. He was well known not only for his talent, but for his witty sense of humor and his passion for mentoring other musicians. Max led countless jam sessions, welcomed and encouraged beginners and especially cherished making music with his family.

Max celebrated 42 years of sobriety, a milestone he was deeply proud of. His recovery journey became a source of strength and hope for many. He devoted much of his life to mentoring and supporting others seeking sobriety, offering compassion, guidance, and unwavering encouragement to everyone he met.

He was preceded in death, in order, by his father, Olen Max Holcomb; his brother, Mickey Holcomb; his mother, Opal Holcomb; his son, Jeff Walls; his sister, Jean McFadin; and his grandson, Chandler Sweaney.

Max is survived by his daughter, Shelley Larrick, and her husband Michael; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His grandchildren include Garrett Sweaney and his wife Kali, and their children Adalyn, Finn, and Eisley; Taylor Sweaney and his wife Paige, and their daughter Alora; Jack Hicks, son of Jeff Walls.

Funeral services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, 3506 N. National, Springfield, Missouri, on Friday, February 13. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a short service to follow at 2:00 p.m.

Max will be remembered for his generosity, humor, musical spirit, steadfast independence, and his lifelong commitment to helping others find their way.

His care has been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
