Howard Jackson

Graveside services for Howard F. Jackson will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Halsey Cemetery in West Monroe, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. until 1:30 P.M.at Kilparick Funeral Home, 1200 Lamy Lane, Monroe, Louisiana under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home-Monroe.
Howard Fred Jackson was born January 6, 1934 in Meridian, Mississippi, and passed away December 27, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi at the age of 91. He was married to Martha Harris Jackson who died October 8, 2016.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey H. Jackson and Eva Polk Jackson.
He is survived by his daughter, Dianne McIntosh and husband, Phillip McIntosh of Ridgeland Mississippi; granddaughter, Roxy McIntosh; brother, Les Jackson.
He graduated from Neville High School in 1953, Northeast Louisiana State College (ULM) with a BS in Music Education in 1957 and a Masters of Music in 1965. He was a music Educator in Monroe City Schools from 1957 through 1978, Band Director at Jefferson Junior High School from 1957 to 1978. He also taught band at other Monroe schools during this time, including Wossman High School and Clara Hall Elementary. Howard loved music and was a talented musician from the fourth grade onward. In college, he was a member of the marching band, the Red Men (Jazz Band) and the Little Symphony. He was a cellist with the Symphony Orchestra for a number of years.
Howard was also a well known piano technician from 1960's until 2020 and ran his own business, Jackson Piano Service. He was a member of the Piano Technicians Guild and a frequent instructor at regional and national meetings of the Guild. He was selected for training and tuning at Steinway Piano, New York City and he was noted for his professionalism and quality of work in piano restoration.
Howard restored player pianos, pump organs and even pipe organs. He rescued and restored the pipe organ from the old Paramount Theater on DeSiard St. in Monroe. He also wrote a book about the history of the Saenger/Paramount Theater in Monroe, covering the live stage productions, events and other openings in the theater from 1921-1970.
He was a member of First Methodist Church in Monroe and served as interim Music Minister at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Monroe.
