Howard Charles "Chuck" Kavanaugh, Jr., 67, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born on January 17, 1958, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Howard Charles and Mary Margaret (Kane) Kavanaugh, Sr. Chuck proudly served in the U.S. Army. He later married the love of his life, Lynn Foos, on August 9, 2008, and she survives.
A hard worker all his life, Chuck was an ironworker U.A.W. Local #16 and served as foreman for the U.A.W. Local #55. He also owned and operated 4 Seasons Lawn Care, offering lawn care, tree trimming, and snow plowing services. He had various business ventures including a tow truck at one point.
Chuck was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Oak Harbor and proudly celebrated over 30+ years of sobriety as a devoted member of A.A. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, watching boxing and football-especially cheering on his beloved Indianapolis Colts-and betting on the horses at the track. He also loved spending time at the Thirsty Pony in Sandusky and could often be found at Kozy Corner Restaurant, where he was known for his friendly teasing of the waitresses and aggravating them with his larger-than-life personality. He lived to eat and ate out often.
Chuck was known for his independence, sense of humor, and the way he could strike up a conversation with anyone. Above all, his grandchildren were the light of his life and his greatest source of pride. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife: Lynn; children, Monica (Justin) Nolen, Serena (Ryan) Kavanaugh-Whalen, Jordan Cantrell, and Leann (Becca) Cantrell; grandchildren: Hunter (Caitlin) Nolen, Wyatt Nolen, Jackson Nolen, Oliver Whalen, and Parker Whalen; and great-grandson: Bentley Nolen; siblings, Randy (Debbie) Kavanaugh and Kim (Jimmy) Hochstein; special niece, Maddie; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Chuck will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 2–8 p.m., with family present from 2–4 and 6–8 p.m., at the Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 301 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor, Ohio. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 215 N. Church St., Oak Harbor, with visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in LaCarpe Cemetery, Lacarne, Ohio.
