Howard B. Merrick ObituaryHoward Merrick, 94, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025. He was born on March 8,1930. He grew up in
Brooklyn, NY and attended the University of Vermont where he met his future wife, Mary. They were married on
September 11,1954. Howard played baseball and basketball at James Madison High School and for the University of VT. He then entered the US Army, served and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Howard enjoyed sailing and camping. He spent his career working at several YMCA's, including Ridgewood, Summit, Union and Hamilton, NJ before retiring in 1988. Howard was a member of Rotary International. He received the Paul Harris Fellow recognition from Rotary for his long-term service and contributions to the organization. Howard has always been involved with many aspects of his local church families. He also drove for Meals on Wheels in the Trenton area for many years.
He is survived by his sons, Steven (and his wife Joan) and Robert (and his wife Donna); 5 grandchildren, Michael (and his wife Lindsey), Jeffrey, Andrew (and his wife Jennifer), Kevin (and his wife Linda) and Laura as well as 4 great-grandchildren, Owen, Henry, Declan and Brendan.
He passed away after a short-term illness on Friday, March 7, 2025, one day short of his 95th birthday.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at the United Methodist Church, 2025 Berwyn St., Union, NJ 07083. Interment will follow privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the National Park Foundation, Nature Conservancy, or The American Legion. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
