Howard Louis Morrow, Sr., age 85, of Cowan, Tennessee, passed peacefully at his residence on October 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 26, 1940, in Elora, Tennessee, to the late John and Georgia (Pruitt) Morrow. From an early age, Howard dedicated his life to the Lord, living faithfully, humbly, and with an unwavering spirit of service.
For more than 65 years, he served as a Deacon of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Cowan, Tennessee. His devotion to his family, his church, and the entire Franklin County community was steadfast. He was known for his gentle nature, loyal heart, and willingness to help anyone in need, regardless of who they were or what their circumstances might have been. He has touched so many souls that they will never forget his gestures of wisdom and kindness will last as long as they live. To those who loved him, Howard was truly an angel here on earth. He lived a simple life with a simple heart, yet his wisdom, kindness, and devotion made an everlasting impact.
In addition to his service in the church, Howard worked as a skilled welder at Arnold Air Force Base. He carried the same work ethic into his occupation that he showed in his personal life, patience, dedication, and integrity.
Sports were also a lifelong passion for Howard. He was an outstanding athlete and later went on to become a respected official, coach, and mentor to countless young people throughout the community. He believed in the power of sports to teach discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, and his influence touched generations both on and off the field.
Howard's life was marked by simplicity and deep understanding. He was a man filled with compassion and patience, always ready with words of encouragement or a helping hand. His greatest joy was found in serving the Lord and living as a true servant of faith.
He will be remembered as a faithful man, a devoted family man, a pillar of his community, and a man who embodied the love of Christ in every aspect of his life. His legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, John Morrow, Jr., and William Morrow; sisters, Roberta Brown, Irene Simmons, Estelle Qualls, and Wilma Johnson; niece, Paulette Burks; brother-in-law, Phillip Moss, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bobbie Jean Hartsfield Morrow; children, Howard (Tracie) Morrow, Jr., Eric (Faye) Morrow, Lynn Morrow Woten, Lena (Jeffrey) Jenkins, Dana Morrow, and Jeremy (Candi) Morrow; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; brother, James (Deloris) Morrow; sisters, Willie Mae Morrow, Susie Kennerly-Morrow, Leona Moss, Clara Mae Talley, Georgia Ann (Ed) King, and Gertrude Eady; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Cowan, TN, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Elk River Tabernacle at 11:00 AM, with internment to immediately follow in Watson Memorial Park.
