Howard Lloyd Rogers

Howard Rogers, 85, passed away peacefully on Oct. 20 at his home overlooking Onomea Bay in Pepeekeo. He was a world renown scholar of Chinese painting, a professor at Sophia University in Tokyo, a dealer in Asian art establishing Kaikodo, "Hall of Embracing Antiquity," a business in Japan and gallery in New York City, and owner of Restaurant Kaikodo in Hilo. A celebration of Howard's life will be held early in 2026. Survived by his wife Mary Ann of Pepeekeo; children, Amber Rogers currently of Sydney Australia, Scott (Robin) Rogers of Port Townsend, Washington, Laura (Evan) Cross of San Francisco, California, Elee (Jonathan) Paivarinta of Taipei; brothers, Evan (Kathleen) Rogers of Mesa, Arizona, Dale Rogers of Duluth, Minnesota; sister, Neva Carlson of Asheville, North Carolina. 11 grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
