Howard Wayne Shinkman

Howard Wayne Shinkman, 81, of Asheville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in the Hospice Valor Unit. Born November 11, 1941 in Scottsville, KY, he was a son of the late William and Edith Morgan. He was a graduate of Message School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After the war, he was employed by the Atlantic Envelope Company for several years. Then worked for a private family as a Manny for 20 years. Of his many talents in life, he enjoyed woodworking, mechanics, and carpentry the most. Howard also founded a Ashram in Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen; daughter-in-law, Allison Shinkman, granddaughter, Tamera; and grandson, Nathaniel. Surviving are his children, Warren Shinkman and his life partner, Maria Madison, Rebecca Benyahia and her spouse, Djamel Benyahia, and Marcus Shinkman; brothers, David and Bernard Shinkman; granddaughters, Candace, Fatima, Zineb, Sarah, Rachid, Khadija, and Omar; and great-grandchildren, Amira Lila, Alice, Lyna, Mary, Rania, Adam, and due to arrive on the 10th of January, Mohammed; the Shield family; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A private service will be held at a later date.
