Howard Edward Smith, age 81, of Muskegon. Passed away peacefully in his home on August 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born February 13th, 1944, in Muskegon, Howard proudly served his country as a United States Marine, embodying strength, loyalty, and dedication throughout his life. His service shaped the man he became - disciplined yet kind and always committed to those he loved.
Howard grew up with a love for the outdoors and a passion for golf that lasted throughout his life. He could often be found on the course with friends, enjoying both the game and the laughter that came with it. Away from the green, Howard enjoyed the thrill of a trip to the casino, where his sense of fun and good humor made every visit memorable. Above all, Howard cherished time with his family and his dog, Marylin.
Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Susan; his children, Charles Smith, Kimberly Smith, and Scott (Ronda) Smith; his six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, who were the light of his world. He is also survived by his sisters Betty Tanner, Nancy Inis, Shirley Puffer, Rose Mclean (Chan).
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Helen Smith, his sister, Darlene Smith, and his brothers, Robert Smith and Jimmy Smith.
A celebration of Howard's life will be held on November 8th, 2025, at Egelcraft Clubhouse, 2129 Arrowhead Drive Muskegon, Michigan 49442, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with Military Honors and Memory Sharing starting at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to share memories and honor a life well lived.
