BENNETTSVILLE — Howell "Hal" Francis Kifer, Jr. of Bennettsville entered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the age of 84.
Hal was born March 1, 1941, in Baltimore, Md. He was the son of the late Howell Francis, Sr., and Ruth Cleveland Kifer.
Hal was a proud veteran who faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He was a graduate of Central Wesleyan College.
Hal served the Lord in the Gospel ministry. He pastored churches in Virginia, Michigan, and Tennessee. Hal also served at the Hephzibah Children's Home. He also enjoyed singing in a gospel and barbershop quartet. Hal was currently a member of Bennettsville Wesleyan Church, where he served the church in many capacities.
He will be missed by family and friends, but we rejoice in knowing that he is rejoicing in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
In addition to his parents, Hal was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Hamilton.
Hal is survived by his loving wife, Myrtle Freeman Kifer of the home; a son, Keith Kifer; a daughter, Sallie Bassett of NY; sisters, Dianna Kifer of Baltimore, Md., and DebraBurdette (Rick) of Champlin, Minn.; aunt, Annette Ketterman of Lochern, Md.; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed the service in Sunset Memorial Park. A time of visitation was held on Tuesday, just prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m. at Burroughs funeral Home Chapel.
