Hubert "John" Dale Johnston, 100, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025 at his home. He was born on June 11, 1925, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Ernest Earl Johnston and Grace M. (Munday) Johnston.
John attended Lakeview Schools and then served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII. He retired from Eaton Manufacturing in 1983 after 32 dedicated years of service and worked part-time at Stair Specialist Inc. for 47 years.
John is survived by his Daughter, Gayle Johnston; Grandchildren, Urgle Marion and Kira Johns; Great Grandchildren, Neveaha Miller, Hayden Miller, John Edwards Jr.; Niece, Pamela (Dave Kendall) Thurman,many niece's and nephews; and numerous extended family & friends. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Wife, Darla Jean Johnston; First Wife, Betty Johnston; Daughter, Edna Mae Johnston; Brother, Albert Johnston; Sisters, Phila Mitchell, Janette Jones & Edna Einhardt. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and years long golf partner, Ed Jones; Ted Goff, who made stunning spiral staircases with, that still adorn Governor's Offices throughout the Country.
John enjoyed golfing, his cockatiel birds, going to his annual Coast Guard Reunion and seeing his friends at Brady's Pub who was owned by his ship-mate Peter H. Brady. He was known for his sense of humor.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 12:30 pm.
Interment will take place in the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
