Hugh Darr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wiley Funeral Home - Granbury on Jun. 7, 2023.
On Sunday, June 4, 2023, Hugh Gary Darr, loving husband, father and grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 90. He passed away peacefully in the presence of family.
Gary was born on July 29, 1932, in Alpine, Texas to Hugh Finney and Odell Catherine (Johnson) Darr. He received his bachelor's degree in military science from New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. He accepted his commission as a Second
Lieutenant in the Army and was stationed in Germany following the Korean Conflict. He led an armored platoon that included five Patton tanks and talked fondly of the camaraderie with his men and the pride he felt in service to his country.
Upon his return to the States, he served in the Army National Guard while taking graduate classes in art at the University of Texas in Austin. After meeting and marrying Gloria Barton, the couple settled in Odessa, Texas where he pursued a career in commercial art, becoming Advertising Manager at Sears Roebuck and Company –
eventually landing in sales.
Gary was passionate about travel and was thrilled to visit places around the world including Israel, Egypt, Europe, Australia, Greece and China. Gary loved his church, First Baptist Church of Granbury and served faithfully as a Deacon. He had a servant's heart and was devoted to spreading the love of Jesus in service and in generosity.
Gary is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria and his sister, Dorothy Wolf. Gary is survived by daughter, Robin Kennedy (Billy Kennedy) and son, Mark Darr, granddaughter, Hannah Taylor, nieces Sammie Shelton and Anna Denson and nephews Ryan (Rip) Gibson and Gary David Denson.
Visitation will be held at Wiley Funeral Home, 400 E Highway 377, Granbury,
Texas 76048 on Friday, June 9th from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Granbury, Texas 76048 on Saturday, June 10th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Granbury and Mission Granbury, Inc.
