Dr. Hugh T Wallace passed away at Westchester Manor on December 29, 2025.
He was born in
Rockingham, NC on April 22, 1934. He was born to Reverend George Hiram Wallace and Carrie Mae Wiggins Wallace.
He grew up in a Southern Baptist preacher's home where Jesus is Lord.
He attended several schools; however, he finished his last three years at Rockingham High School.
He was an outstanding scholar and student athlete. He played football, basketball and baseball. He earned varsity letters all four high school years.
He received college football scholarship offers but decided to enter Wake Forest College. Despite no scholarship offer, he walked on the football team.
He graduated from Wake Forest College with Honors in 1956. He was accepted to Bowman Grey School of Medicine and entered in the fall of that year. During his four years at Bowman Grey, he was married to the former Mary Ann Sides. Upon graduating medical school, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force.
He and his family moved to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Upon finishing his internship, he was transferred to Pope Field-Fort Bragg North Carolina. After his tour of duty he moved to
High Point, North Carolina.
He joined the Brigman-Averette Medical Practice. He practiced medicine over forty years.
He always had a love for music. He formed a corporation. The corporation opened a recording and publishing company in Nashville, Tennessee. He wrote and recorded a song-"The Centurion." He received royalties from BMI and ASCAP.
After retiring from his medical practice, he became involved in real estate. He earned his real estate and broker's license; moreover, he opened the business Resort Realty.
He was a member of Emerywood Baptist Church the last sixty years of his life. He sang in the choir and was member of the Deacon Board.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his two sons Jonathan and Timothy, his brother Charles D. Wallace and his sister Martha Jane Hofner.
He is survived by his former wife Mary Ann Wallace, his son Hugh T. Wallace, Jr., his brother Dr. George M. Wallace, Sisters-in-law Nancy Wallace and Carol Wallace and nephews George M. Wallace, Jr., Dr. Larry Maxwell, Charles D. Wallace, Jr. and Stephen F. Wallace.
Funeral services will be held January 11, 2026 at Emerywood Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 1:45 pm in the gathering room. The service will begin at 2:30 pm.
