Hugh “Hughie” Francis Walsh III, 61, of Havertown, PA passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 29, 1963 in Philadelphia to the late Hugh Francis Walsh Jr. and Patricia (Dixon) and was big brother to Michael. He was an adoring and devoted husband to Mary Pat (Hyland) and an incredible father to Patrick (spouse Ciara) and Colleen.
Hugh grew up in Delaware County and attended Saint Andrew’s School and Bonner High School before attending Saint Joseph’s University. Hughie was always an active kid and fell in love with the sport of hockey and through that created many long lasting friendships.
Hugh worked in the insurance industry, but his true passion was Saint Joseph’s University Men’s Ice Hockey Club and the brotherhood and connections he created in that program. He played under Finbarr O’Conner from ‘81-‘85 and eventually took the team over from Finn in 2001. He cherished every man in that program and created some of his most valued friendships there. Hugh’s passion for hockey did not stop with coaching. He enjoyed being on the ice and calling the games with many refs that inevitably became close friends.
Hugh loved to travel with his family and friends. He loved to take new adventures and always found himself at a brewery or distillery enjoying a few beverages with many laughs. Sea Isle City was his second home, and home to his mother, where he loved to ride his bicycle with MP and of course find a brewery to hydrate. His favorite afternoons were sitting on the beach with family. That or being on the golf course with his kids or buddies. Hugh always enjoyed life.
At his core, Hugh was a connector of all people. If you knew Hughie, then chances were he had introduced you to some important people in your life. He was quick to lend a hand and help out anyone he encountered. He had the warmest smile and the best laugh. He will be missed dearly by many.
Relatives and friends are invited to Hugh’s visitation on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA and on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 105 Wilson Avenue, Havertown, PA followed by his funeral mass at 11:00 AM.
