Hunter Smith Obituary
July 15, 2002 - November 4, 2024
Hunter Michael Smith, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly over the weekend at age 22. Born on July 15, 2002, in Papillion, Nebraska, Hunter lived a life of love, laughter, and purpose.
A dedicated student and athlete, Hunter graduated as class president and valedictorian from Plattsmouth High School in 2020, excelling in cross country, wrestling, and track. He went on to Southwest Minnesota State University, where he was set to complete his MBA in May 2025, with plans to attend law school. An accomplished pole vaulter, he held the SMSU school record and received numerous Athlete of the Week honors. Hunter also served as president of SMSU's FCA Chapter, sharing his deep faith with others.
An outdoorsman and hard worker, Hunter cherished time hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was a proud US Army National Guard member in Minnesota and a devoted brother. Hunter leaves behind his parents, Natalie Papstein and Chris (Marla) Smith; siblings Lucas, Sawyer, Harbor, Bruce, and Elton; grandparents Christopher & Linda Smith, Jeanie Wood, Dennis Larsen, and Stacy & Martha Jenkins, as well as extended family and friends. He lives on in the hearts of his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be deeply missed by his girlfriend, Malayna Kiel. He was preceded in death by his uncles, Brett Larsen and Stephen Doney, and by his great-grandfather, John Doney.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Christian Church in Bellevue, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Friday, November 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Calvary Christian Church.
