Hyacinth McDonald Obituary

Hyacinth Agatha Bennett McDonald (84) was born to Percival Wray Bennett and Christine Johnson on September 15th, 1941, in the Farm District of St Ann's, Jamaica. She was affectionately known to many as Sister "Genie" or simply "Nurse." She passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025.
From an early age, she carried a deep passion for caring for others. There were many weekends when she would open her home to children in need. She taught and demonstrated to everyone the importance of generosity, independence, and compassion, not only through her words but also through her actions.
Small in stature but mighty in spirit, Hyacinth was a proud and graceful woman. A nurse for many years, her crisp white nursing uniform and perfectly starched cap were a reflection of her professionalism and pride in her calling. Her shoes, always spotless, seemed to shine as brightly as her spirit.
Hyacinth married the love of her life, Linburgh Waddington "Mackie" McDonald, in 1983, and together they built a beautiful family. She was a proud mother of four daughters and two sons. Hyacinth and her family migrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, New York. While in Brooklyn, she worked in the healthcare profession for many years, having an extensive career at Brooklyn Hospital and the Convent of Mercy. She retired back home to Jamaica and returned to the States in 2021 to see her beloved baby boy get married. While here in the States, she indulged her time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren until her heavenly transition.
She was preceded in death by her husband, "Mackie," in 2010, and later by her beloved daughter, Dora Johnson, who passed away in 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory her five children: Beverly Byles, Tyrone Johnson, Angelineta Williams, Lyncie McDonald, and her youngest son, Fabian McDonald; sisters, Merna Johnson, and Janet Johnson-Sims, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Hyacinth, Sister Genie, Nurse, Genie Bennett, Mummy, and Grandma will truly be missed.
