Ian Forrester Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 25, 2024.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church 247 W. Lovell Street, Kalamazoo at 11:00 on Monday June 10th 2024. The family suggests that those who wish to honor his memory consider kind deeds or a donation to a charity of choice, or Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.
Ian Bradford Forrester, beloved son of Alan and the late Mary Forrester, died on May 21, 2024, after many years of enduring several illnesses that led to drug addiction and ultimately his death. Despite his troubled life, Ian was known for his kindness, keen sense of humor, talent for cooking, and athletic ability, as well as love for his family. He was especially proud of his nieces and nephews. Born to Alan and the late Mary Peterson Forrester on September 25, 1967, in Longview, Washington, he moved to Portage with his family in 1972. He grew up on West Lake, where he enjoyed swimming and fishing in the summer and skating in the winter. In 1985, he graduated from Hackett High School where he played baseball and hockey. He then moved to South Bend and served in the food industry, in restaurants and, back in Portage, as a private cook. Ian is survived by his father; two sisters; a brother-in-law; three nephews; three nieces. His mother and grandparents preceded him in death.

I knew Ian since I could remember growing up on West Lake four houses down. He was about 4 years older but always nice to us. Fond memories playing baseball in his yard. I appreciated him coming to my brother John´s funeral this past January. His honest and loving sharing of his struggles that were very similar to my brothers was touching. Addiction and mental illness is a noble struggle.
