It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Ida A. “Edie” DeMatteo nee Vardaro who entered eternal rest on October 16, 2025, at the age of 92.
Born on October 20th, 1932 in Philadelphia. Edie lived a life marked by grace, kindness, and unwavering faith. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she dedicated her life to nurturing those around her and always put the needs of others before her own.
Her greatest joy was her family. Nothing made her happier than a house full of loved ones, the sound of laughter in the kitchen, and the warmth of shared meals and stories. She was the quiet strength behind generations, always ready with a comforting word, a gentle hug, and wisdom earned through a life well lived.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, it was well known that if you wanted a prayer answered, it was best to have Edie say it since her prayers were constant, and her belief in God unshakable.
Edie leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and resilience. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nicholas DeMatteo Sr whom she was married to for 59 years and her son Nicholas Jr. She is survived by her 4 children, Nancy Markley (Tom), Joanne Aretz (Bob), Marianne Maloney (Dan), and Diane Schute (Chaz). She was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to St. Jude Church, 321 W Butler Ave in Chalfont for visitation on Friday, October 24th at 10am followed by a Funeral mass at 11am. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Nicholas DeMatteo Jr Fund, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, 3401 Civic Center Blvd, Philadelphia PA 19104. in her memory.
Her gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and boundless love will remain in our hearts forever.
