Lewiston, Maine-Ida Levesque, 75, Born October 28th, 1947, in Skowhegan Maine, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 6th, 2023, at the Androscoggin Hospice House after a hard-fought decade-long battle with clear cell renal carcinoma.
Ida was born to Donat F Begin and Lena (Letourneau) Begin and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1966. She married Paul Levesque on September 2nd, 1967, and celebrated 56 years of marriage a few days prior to her death, with Paul by her side.
Ida retired in May of 2012 from Hannaford's first flagship store #265, in Lewiston, as the Human Resources Director, after 28 years.
She is survived by; her husband Paul of 56 years; daughter Amy (Dr. Philip) McLean and their children Jennifer (Seth) Boucher and Matthew McLean; son Jon-Paul (Meghan) Levesque and their children Avery, Addison, and Sawyer.
Ida was predeceased by her parents Donat and Lena, her brother Lawrence, sister Jaqueline, and a daughter, Kathy who died at birth.
Her greatest joy was her grandchildren who brought her much happiness.
She was also known for her French-Canadian upbringing, of her extremely strong work ethic and cleanliness of having a, to name a few, clean floors and sink, and fortifying that sentiment onto her children. To this day, they follow those habits, as well as never leaving trash in the bathroom waste basket.
The family would also like to truly send a heartfelt thanks to Dr. B, the intensivist at St. Mary's Hospital, the staff and Androscoggin Hospice House, especially her direct care team (our dear friend) Dr. Ross, Dr. Desoy, Bambi, both Nicole's, Deanna, Rebecca, and all the other nurses and aids, and administration who took care of her with dignity, kindness and empathy not just for her, but also for her family. They truly made this difficult time as easy as possible, with their never-ending compassion and support.
They would also like to send a thank you to her lifelong dear friend, Reine Mynahan who, along with their high school group, including Anita, Celine, Louise, and Elaine, arranged to have someone sit with Ida. Ida was consistently surrounded by friends and family during her last days. Another dear friend, Joanne Lalemand, who Ida worked with her entire career at Hannaford, was with her for the last few hours.
Per Ida's request, there will be no funeral. She wanted everyone who knew and loved her to remember her good times, and for her family to move forward. Even up until a few hours before her death, she was able to ask Amy and Jon about the grandkids, and even lifted her head when her oldest grandson visited. She passed in peace and happiness.
Those wishing, in lieu of flowers, may make a charitable donation in Ida's memory to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, Hospice House Fund, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240.
Arrangements are under the care of Albert & Burpee Funeral Home & Cremation Services 253 Pine Street, Lewiston, 782-7201.
