Ida Mae McDaniel of Amelia, Ohio passed away on March 2, 2025. She was 92 years old. Ida was born February 27, 1933 in Burtonville, Kentucky to the late Thomas and Beatrice Pollitt. Ida grew up on a farm. As the oldest of six children, Ida was given many responsibilities such as helping her mother with the cooking, looking after her siblings, and even staying with friends of her family to help with newborn babies or ailing family members. These skills served Ida well throughout her life, not only to care for her own family, but also in her career.
Ida was a graduate of Aberdeen High School and went on to work at Mariemont Elementary School as the secretary for many years. In her role as secretary, Ida was valued, respected, and adored by both staff and students. She also spent time teaching bible school and leading children in their faith.
Ida clearly had two priorities throughout her life: her faith and her family. She inspired others to seek a relationship with the Lord by simply knowing her and witnessing her own faithful life. The caregiving skills Ida acquired so young led her to become a loving and devoted wife and nurturing mother to her sons. With her strong leadership skills and big heart, Ida provided them with much love, guidance, and support throughout her life. One of Ida’s greatest joys was her close relationship with both of her grandsons. From the time they were born, she prioritized time with them.
Ida was a loving sister to her siblings and a loyal friend to many. Her selflessness allowed her to forge many loving relationships and positively impact many lives.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Robert “Bob” McDaniel. She is survived by her sons Michael McDaniel and Patrick (Lisa) McDaniel and will always be Loving Nana to her grandchildren, Tyler and Ian McDaniel. Ida is also survived by her brother Tom (Carol) Pollitt and brother-in-law Ken Snider and sister-in-law Sue Merritt. She is preceded in death by her siblings Helen Snider, Jean Nash, Virginia (Sonny) Seibert, and Sarah Evelyn Pollitt as well as her mother and father-in-law Nola McDaniel and Doc Samuel.
Ida’s strong faith and love for family and friends allowed her to live a beautiful life. Her absence will be felt by many.
