Ida "Maurine" Topliff, 97, of Jefferson City, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 14,
2025, surrounded by her family, at SSM St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City, MO. She was born
August 28, 1928 in Latham, MO; the daughter of Bryse and Cora (Irey) Hill.
Maurine is survived by her four Children: Barbara Henley of Jefferson City; Susan Spicuzza
(Tony) of St. Louis; Kent Topliff (Sharon) of Springfield; and David Topliff (Candi) of Wichita, KS.
Grandchildren: Susan Freeman (Jonathan); Sarah Schwantes (Allen); Sydney Ortiz (Glen); and
Alex Topliff. Great-Grandchildren: Cole Freeman (Lauren); Bryse Freeman, Paige Schwantes,
Blair Schwantes, Spencer Schwantes and Maverick Ortiz. Great-Great Grandchild: Theodore
Freeman. Maurine was an Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the
father of her children, Charles Topliff.
Family who preceded her in death include two Sisters, Erma Hodel and Loni Renfrow; two
Brothers, Paul Hill and Clay Hill; Son-in-law, James "Happy" Henley; and Great-Grandson,
Matthew Scott Freeman. Maurine treasured three very special friends who preceded her in
death: Nadine Opie, Roseanne Sewell, and Rosalie Popp. Maurine and these three ladies
enjoyed road trips, shopping excursions and Saturday night dinners for many years.
Maurine attended Red Brush School and graduated from California High School. Her
professional career spanned more than forty years of service to the State of Missouri including
the Missouri Senate and Missouri Secretary of State's office where her primary responsibility
was proofreading the Missouri Blue Book. Maurine's final and most tenured position with the
State of Missouri was as a supervisor with the Missouri Division of Workers' Compensation until
her retirement in 1992. She also enjoyed a part-time position as receptionist at Capital Region
Hospital for more than twenty-five years.
Maurine's first priority was forever her family. She always enjoyed family time including taking
trips, going on shopping sprees, playing games (especially cards), hosting family dinners and
holiday gatherings. She loved being involved in all sorts of family activities and helping out.
Maurine was raised on the family farm near Latham, MO, and she enjoyed returning to her roots
often. She loved gardening and was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tiger
basketball.
Maurine was proud to be a resident of the
Eldon, Missouri community for most of her adult life,
and was a member of the Eldon United Methodist Church since 1959.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Eldon United
Methodist Church of
Eldon, MO with the Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 PM with Pastor
Jacob Lewellen officiating. Burial will follow at the California City Cemetery in California, MO.
Memorials in her name are suggested to the Eldon United Methodist Church of
Eldon, MO.
