Ila Shelton McKee, age 92, of Reidsville, North Carolina went to her Heavenly home on June 16, 2025. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 pm to 2 pm). Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 19, at Covington Wesleyan Church in Reidsville. The burial will follow the funeral service at Evergreen Memory Gardens, 7875 US-158 in Reidsville.
Ila was born in Stokes County, North Carolina on October 13, 1932, a daughter of Lemmie and Agnes Shelton, both deceased. She was employed and retired from Rockingham County Schools. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law. She had a great love for her family, friends and her Lord and Savior. Her favorite things in life were spending time with her loved ones and attending church at Covington Wesleyan. She was affectionately called Granny Kee by her family and will be greatly missed by all of us, but knowing she is now walking the streets of gold makes it a little easier to let her go.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Neal McKee; son, Ernie McKee; brothers, Ernest Shelton, Lewis Shelton, Ralph Shelton and infant brother, Roy Lester Shelton along with sisters, Alice Goins and Ruby Griffin.
She is survived by her son, Dean McKee (Patricia) of Reidsville, NC; grandchildren, Missy Vernon (Larry), Sandra Nichols (Van), Angie Petty (Tracy) and Jeff McKee (Dana); great-grandchildren, Timmy Wilson (Maddie), Breanna Wilson (Drake), Kendall Petty (Lauren), Adam Bartlett and Katelyn Petty; daughter-in-law, Wanda McKee. She is also survived by her many beloved nieces, nephews and her little cat companion, Gigi.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ancora Compassionate Care (formerly Hospice of Rockingham County), PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
