Imogene Benton Obituary

Imogene Benton, AKA "Granny" was called home, Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026. She was 88 years old and lived a life marked by faith, love and dedication. She was honest, hardworking and full of joy. She believed in doing what was right and was never afraid of hard work. Those who knew her best will remember her wonderful sense of humor, there was truly never a dull minute when Granny was around, and her laughter could lighten any room.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Steve Benton and her beloved husband, Max. Their love-bond was so strong, and her family takes comfort in knowing they have been reunited for all eternity. She now rejoices in heaven, as God promises us in John 14: 2-3, "In the house of my Father there are many dwelling places. Otherwise, I would have told you, for I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go my way and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will receive you home to myself, so that where I am you also may be."

She leaves behind, three sons, Darrell Benton (Julie), Edward Benton, Mickey Benton (Amanda) and one daughter, Debbie Adams (Richie). Also, many grandchildren; Harper Benton, Brittany Benton, Richard Cooper (Ivy), Samuel Cooper, Nichole Benton (Ben), Matt Benton (Taylor), Meghan Adams, Bobbie Jo Benton, Trevor Nix (Beth), Jesse Benton (Kaylee), Jake Davenport, Miranda Adams, Julian Moncho, Barrett Benton, and Hattie Benton, great-grandchildren: Ali, Skylar, Fletcher, Oliver, Ellie, Beau, Gunner, James, Sawyer, Cooper, Lucy, Brystol, Wes, Ben, and one great-great grandson, Monti Benton.

Growing up Imogene learned discipline and hard work at a young age, as she would pick cotton every day after school. That discipline helped her to excel in sports including softball and basketball. She was a rockstar! Some say she could outplay girls younger than her, well into her forties! She was a true sportsman and loved the outdoors whether it was hunting or fishing or just "piddling" in the garden." Her faith grew throughout her life, while attending meetings at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She professed her faith to all, as it was the core of who she was, leaving a legacy of faith, family, friends. The love for her family was fierce, her pride and joy! She cherished time spent with them, whether it was sharing stories, working together in the garden, (that of course usually included burning leaves), or simply sitting outside enjoying one another's company. She was always willing to lend a helping hand-no matter the task and did so with a willing heart, expecting nothing in return. Her kindness and dependability affected so many lives. She was deeply appreciated by all who knew her. Let's not forget her love for puzzles!

As we lay her to rest today, let us honor and cherish the good times, holding on to the joy she provided to each one of us who knew her, with hope of restoration. God's promise tells us that death is not the end, and we look forward to the day she will be remembered, not only in our hearts, but restored to life again. Peace and comfort be with you because of this promise, knowing she and Max are finally holding hands in Heaven and that one day, we will all be reunited with them, for those of us in Christ. Until We Meet Again!

I loved Imogene so, so much. She was smart, beautiful, kind, joyful, loyal, and...she was devoted to her Avon! In addition to all that, she was the first person to care for Harper after she was born and, as is obvious to anyone who knows Harper, Grandma Benton instilled her wonderful attributes into her granddaughter. Well ok, maybe not the Avon thing, lol!
In addition to adoring her family, Imogene loved her fur babies and, I've no doubt, sweet Sandy will miss her terribly.
I will end as I started. I loved Imogene. I look forward to our heavenly reunion one of these days. No doubt she is in awe of Jesus this very moment, even as she begins to celebrate her glorious and eternal life with Him.
