Imogene Bishop Bowyer

Imogene Bishop Bowyer, 89 years old of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Jason H. and Bertha M. Bishop and the widow of George E. Bowyer.

She graduated from Campobello High School in 1954. She graduated from the Spartanburg General Hospital Nursing Program in 1957 and went on to have a 40-year career as a RN and head nurse at Spartanburg General (Spartanburg Regional) and Mary Black hospitals. She wed her husband of 59 years in 1958. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 65 years.

She is survived by her son, Dr. James (Jim) Bowyer of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by 9 nieces, 8 nephews, and quite a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was the baby of the family and was predeceased by her siblings Marguerite B. Taylor, James Paul Bishop, John Robert Bishop; half-siblings, Clarence, Fred, Harvey, and Joe Bishop, Annie Mae Henry, and Helen Burrell.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 10:45 am, Friday, March 13, 2026, at Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

The funeral services will be 11:00 am following visitation and conducted by Dr. Schuyler Peterson. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC.

The family will be at the home following the services.
