Imogene Walter Obituary
Imogene Louise Walter passed away at her home in Flagstaff surrounded by the love and support of her family and caregivers on January 4, 2026, at the age of 94. Imogene was born on September 23, 1931, in Boise, Idaho to her parents Orville and Esther Osborn. Imogene's family moved from Boise to Tucson, Arizona when she was twelve years old. She attended and graduated from Tucson High School in 1949. After graduating from high school her family moved to Mesa, Arizona.
While living in Mesa, Imogene attended business school. While commuting to school in Phoenix she befriended a fellow bus rider. Her friend would talk fondly about her brother Everett, always saying "how great he was", that he was attending ASU, and she wanted to introduce him to Imogene. Soon the two were introduced, and shortly after, Imogene told her friend, "he is great". After a short courtship Everett and Imogene were married on December 23, 1951.
After Everett graduated, he was drafted into the army. After basic training they were transferred to Maryland, and then to El Peso, Texas where Everett worked in the Signal Corps at White Sands Missile Range. While in the army they had their first son. When Everett was discharged, he kept the same job as a civilian. They then had son number two. The family then moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where Everett attended and worked at New Mexico State University. Son number three was born in Las Cruces. In 1962 their growing family moved to Flagstaff, Arizona where son number four was born and Everett started teaching at Northern Arizona university while Imogene was a homemaker and worked part time at the Museum of Northern Arizona in the mid-seventies.
Imogene loved raising and nurturing her family, they were her most treasured gift. She kept a warm and welcoming home, full of love and faith. She and Everett enjoyed getting together with friends for activities like their monthly bridge club night, traveling with groups of friends, and long visits with close friends. Imogene and Everett were longtime members of Federated Community Church. She collected angels and was an avid lifelong reader. She read thousands of books, some of them two or three times. She was a member of the NAU Faculty Wives club and a 50-year member of PEO. She always thought it was "A life well lived ".
Imogene was proceeded in death by her husband Everett, son Dennis, and grandsons David and Seth. She is survived by sons Doug (Janet) Walter, Steve (Mary) Walter, and Jim (Joyce) Walter and daughter-in-law Judy Walter; grandchildren Paul, Joy, Travis and Carrie; 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held April 22, 2026, at 1:00 at Flagstaff Citizens' Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Northern Arizona Hospice, and Comfort Keepers of Flagstaff.
