Lady Imogene "Crockett" Whitaker

Imogene Whitaker 87, of Beaumont, TX; transitioned from labor to reward on Jan. 17, 2026.

Services are Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church 710 IH-10 East Beaumont TX. Visitation will begin at 9AM until Funeral at 11AM. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery Beaumont, TX.

Lady Imogene Whitaker was born on August 29, 1938, in Bessmay, Texas, to the late Jessie "Joe" Crockett and Annie Mae Gilder – Crockett. In her early years, Lady Imogene attended school in Bessmay where she excelled in Basketball and Academically having skipped a grade and graduating as Valedictorian of Bessmay Class of 1956 with her beloved sister Jewelene "Crockett" Bell. After graduating High School, Lady Imogene relocated to Beaumont, TX where she pursued a career in Cosmetology, becoming a Licensed Beautician.

Lady Imogene always had a definitive love for the Lord and Church. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized in the "Mill Pond" by the Late Rev. Gibson in Bessmay, TX. Later, she would serve under the Pastoral Leadership of Rev. JC Banks - Antioch Baptist Church in Buna, Texas.

Lady Imogene loved and married Bishop Ollis E. Whitaker Sr. on April 10th, 1964, and to this union Ollis "Chip" Whitaker Jr. and Precious "Whitaker" Willis were born.

Lady Imogene spent years as a Pianist/Musician having led Choirs at Antioch Baptist Church in Buna, Texas and West Beulah Baptist Church Male Chorus and Senior Choir. Lady Imogene would actively participate in workshops throughout the city perfecting her craft and using her talent as an instrument for Christ. After 20+ years of Service, Lady Imogene retired from Music to join Bishop Ollis E. Whitaker Sr. as First Lady of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church until retirement in August 2018.

Lady Imogene was a PROFOUND Sunday School Teacher, Mentor, Counselor, Prayer Warrior and Partner. She was known throughout the city for her unwavering faith, love for humanity and commitment to teaching God's word. Some of her Favorite Scriptures include:

Romans 1:16; For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto Salvation to everyone that believeth-

Psalms 34:8; O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him-

Lady Imogene's daily walk demonstrated Christ Like attributes such as Faith, Hope, Charity, Virtue, Patience, Humility, Obedience, Kindness and Compassion. It would be her life's fulfillment that everyone Love one another and be saved.

Lady Imogene was preceded in death by her son, Ollis "Chip" Whitaker Jr., sisters, Inez Rogers, Jessie Mae Maple and Florence Boggess., brothers, Willie Crockett and Eddie Crockett.

Lady Imogene leaves her legacy and cherished memories to her Husband: Bishop Ollis E. Whitaker Sr., Daughter: Precious Willis (Toby), Grand Daughters: Fallon Joyce(Devon), Kirra Genee and Destiny De'Sha, Grand Son: Kelz Christopher, Sisters: Jewelene Bell, Betty Johnson, Annette McCain (Raymond), Deidra Perry, Brother: Mike Crockett (Goldie), Daughter-in-Love: Cheryl Whitaker, Brother-in-Love: Harl Sigarst, six (6) Great Grand Children, seven (7) God Children and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Family and Friends.
