Inez Elizabeth Hawkins-Frye was the seventh child of thirteen children born on February 28, 1941 to the late Thomas and Eddie Mae Hawkins. Nellie, as she was fondly called was educated in the Newberry School System. She attended Voorhees College and received an Associate Degree in Business Administration.
Inez retired from the Jersey City Department of Senior Affairs on February 27, 2019, as the Director of the Maureen Collier Senior Center. The Community Room at the center was dedicated to Mrs. Frye upon her retirement.
"Her love has truly touched the lives of many seniors."
Nellie was always the life of the party at family events. She enjoyed caring for family and doting on the "Frye Boys", shopping any day of the week, traveling with friends, and having family reunions. Nellie was also an avid sports fan; she was the star of Gallman High School's basketball team, the 1st black female to be inducted into the Hudson County Bowling Hall of Fame, and loved bingo and Atlantic City.
Inez was married to the love of her life, Samuel Frye for 61 years. She and Sam worked tirelessly together to provide for the family. They were owners of Frye Tours Bus Company.
She was also involved in her community and church as a member of the Steward Board, Ruth Missionary Society, and the South Carolina Club. She was crowned Queen of Mt. Pisgah in 2018 for Women's Day when she raised $9000.

Inez became ill in February 2020. During her illness, her husband was the ultimate caretaker and saw to her every need. Sunday July 16, 2023 Inez transitioned from earth to glory.
Inez leaves to mourn her dedicated and loving husband, Samuel Frye; sons, Anthony, Ronald, Sr., Valentino (Monisa), and Samuel, Sr. (Josephine). Grandchildren; Shantelle, Ronald Jr., Brandon Chin (Rose), Angelicka, Valenisa, Monisa, Mickey, Samuel Jr., Skyler, Liley, and Priscilla. Great Grandchildren; Skyler G., Declan, Mikalette, Fasani, Elijah, and Caspian. God-Children: Bonnie Hawkins-Paez, Jahmane Smith, and Claudia Inez Royster. Siblings; Laura Davenport, Grace Robertson, Maxine (Steven) Royster, Sam (June) Hawkins. Sister-in-Law Irene (Jack) Floyd of Orangeburg, S.C., and Velma Hawkins. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thank you to "sisters of love" for their care and generosity throughout her illness, Blanche "BJ" Jones, and sister-in-love June-Jones Hawkins. Also, a special and heartfelt thank you to 3HC Home Health and Hospice Care.
Nellie Of all the many blessings, however great or small, to have had you for a sister was the greatest of them all.
The family chain is broken again and nothing seems the same; but as God takes us one by one, the chain will link again.

Inez Frye, the absolute best sister one could have. Technically Inez was actually my sister-in-law but it did not define the love she expressed to me, the secrets we shared and the love I developed for her. She truly was every woman, deeply rooted spiritually while affectionately loving on her family and friends. She was a great dresser, always fly and and well defined. A Queen that earned her crown! Rest in peace my sister and I pray that we will meet again in that heavenly place, your new residence of endless peace, joy, love and glory!
"Wear your crown, put on your robe & tell the story of how you made it over"
You have earned it all!
