Dorothy Inez Watkins, affectionately known as Kitty, was born on August 29, 1935, in Texarkana, Texas. She passed away peacefully on September 3, 2023, in Kyle, Texas. As a loving, generous, and faith-filled woman, Kitty's life was a testament to the power of love and kindness.
Kitty was born to Walter Gunter and Mary Louise Kidd Gunter. She was the beloved wife of Tommy Manning Watkins, who predeceased her. Kitty is survived by her son, Todd Watkins, and his wife, Jodie, who will continue to cherish her memory and uphold her legacy. She is also survived by her brother Roger Gunter, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband Tommy, Kitty was predeceased by siblings Howard Gunter and Gloria Kruger.
As a member of the first graduating class of Travis High School in 1953 in Austin, Texas, Kitty was always proud of her education. Her academic journey laid a strong foundation for her lifelong commitment to learning, growth, and personal development.
After high school, Kitty embarked on a fulfilling career as a legal secretary with numerous companies, eventually working for over 20 years with the Communications Workers of America (CWA). She remained with the CWA until her retirement in 2005, leaving an indelible mark on the organization and everyone she worked with. Her colleagues remember her as a dedicated professional who brought warmth and compassion to every interaction.
Outside of her professional life, Kitty had a deep love for yard work and gardening. She found joy in nurturing plants and took great pride in her beautifully maintained garden. Kitty was also an avid cook who loved to experiment with different recipes. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and delicious food. In addition, Kitty had a unique passion for collecting thimbles and teapots, a hobby that added a touch of whimsy and charm to her life.
Kitty was deeply involved in her community and was known for her generous spirit. She was member of Calvary Baptist Church in San Marcos before moving to Kyle and joining the Fellowship Church at Plum Creek. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she enthusiastically shared it with others through her service.
As we remember Kitty, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, generosity, and faith. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all. Kitty's life was a testament to the power of love, and her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched.
