Ira Brown, 82, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 at his home in New Carlisle, IN.
He was born January 24, 1941 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the son of Jesse Brown and Audrey (Warner) Brown.
Ira moved to La Porte 62 years ago from Louisiana. He worked for Mossberg & Company in South Bend as Plant Supervisor, retiring at age 57. Ira was a member of Praise Tabernacle Church in La Porte. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, gardening and beekeeping. Ira did a lot of side jobs in his spare time, like carpentry, picking corn with the big combines and gardening. He was happiest when he was spending time with his family, who he dearly loved.
He is survived by his ex-wife and the mother of his children, Florence Brown; three sons and their spouses, Matthew Brown & Debora Stewart of New Carlisle, IN, Barry & Rebecca Brown of LaPorte, IN, Jody & Christa Brown of LaPorte, IN; daughter and spouse, Julie & John Higgins of Pin Hook, IN; Twin sister, Vira Lower; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ira was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl, Albert and Ted Brown; sisters, Bea Lilly, Val Levandowski, Helen Buckmaster and Ida Monte.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. A Memorial Celebration of Ira's Life Service will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023, with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and a service at noon. His son, Barry, will officiate the service. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ira's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 32121 Woodward Ave., Suite 350, Royal Oak, MI 48073.
