Irena Gusiev Obituary

Born in Szprotawa, Poland, to the late Andrzej and Maria (née Wilczynska) Wilczynski, Irena was the youngest of nine children, with four brothers and four sisters. In 1972, after a large wedding celebration in Poland, she married her beloved husband, Michael Gusiev, and together they began their life in the United States. They first settled in Chicago, where they lived for 22 years, before moving to Wood Dale in 1994. Michael preceded her in death in 2007.
Irena will be remembered for her love of family, her passion for cooking, and the kindness she shared with everyone who knew her. She is survived by her children, Christine (Mark) Novotny, Ingrid Gusiev, and Renee (Tim) Sobieraj; her cherished grandchildren, Katie, Andy, Hayden, and Brody; and her sisters, Salomea and Hania. She will also be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Wood Dale. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois.
