Mrs. Irene Horton Boyd, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday evening, October 12, 2025, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Boyd was born April 29, 1953, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Benton Albert and Leavie Goins Horton. Irene retired from Ridgecrest Retirement Community. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, who was deeply devoted to her family. Irene was a Christian and strong in her faith, finding strength and comfort in the Lord throughout her life. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Misty and Kevin Taylor and Wendy Boyd Venable; her son and daughter-in-law, Willie and Christie Gwyn; her grandchildren, Colburn and Kendra Gwyn, Sydney Gwyn, Camden and Jackson Vaughan, Lacey Taylor, and Ethan Venable; her brothers and sister-in-law, Ellis and Cathy Horton and Roy Horton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Tommy World Boyd, Jr.; two sisters, Rosie Inez Horton and Shirley Horton McKeithan; and her beloved fur baby, Marley. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Edwards officiating. No formal visitation will be held. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
