Irene M. Chmura (nee Crosby), 91 of Clifton died on Sunday, May 23rd, at Complete Care at Fairlawn Edge. Born in 1933, a true New Yorker, Irene grew up in a very religious Irish family that was service-oriented with her father as a NYC policeman and her brother as a NYC fireman. Irene faithfully attended Blue Masses. She loved and respected the uniform, so when she met Ed, he reminded her of her father and brother and they got married. Ed brought her to Paterson and they went to various Polish churches and found their home at St. Philip's. When Ed died in 2007, Irene was all alone when she walked into the back of St. Philip's Church and met the Chidiac family. Marlene, Joe, and Catherine became friends with Irene, introducing her to parishioners she would befriend and help. St. Philip's became Irene's home. She participated in Primetimers and the annual Carnival, known as the 50/50 lady. She was also a beloved teacher's aide. All of this she loved and lived for. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Edward Chmura, her parents, Mary and Daniel Crosby, her brother Daniel Crosby and her twin sister, Mary Crosby.
